Ngebel is name of lake in east java in Ponorogo region exactly. It is located about 180 kilometers to west from Surabaya city, the capital city of east java province. Ngebel is lake in Wilis Mountain. The diameter of the lake is 1.5 kilometers. The lake is also surrounded by hills and pines wood. Ngebel also has complete facilities to support it becomes tourism object. Hotel has built and also gift shop, you also will find many coffee shops around the lake and if you like fresh grilled fish it is the right place for you, because there a lot of fresh grilled fish seller and guarantee the price is cheap. Ngebel can reach easily from Surabaya although it is far. First, came to biggest bus terminal in Surabaya, Purbaya and find bus to the Ponorogo. Then tell to the bus crew where is your destination (tell him your destination is Mlilir) in addition let them know you will go to Ngebel. Second, after you arrived in Mlilir (if you arrived to the right destination you will be in the intersection with direction board) wait about the next transportation vehicles. Usually it is a minibus, catch it and it will head directly to Ngebel as the last destination (if you doubt ask the local people they will help you willingly)
Talking about the myth, Ngebel is formed by Baru Klinting. He is a snake that in ascetic in Wilis Mountain. One day there were a people who held the wedding ceremony. He needs a lot of meat. As usual he haunted in the forest, he found a part of big body. Then he cut that body and brought home for meat. He didn’t know that the body is part Baru Klinting, a giant snake that in ascetic circling the Wilis Mountain. Baru Klinting wakes up from his ascetic. He knew that one part of his body was taken. Baru Klinting camouflage became a child. He came to the wedding ceremony, he ask rice and meat. But the host didn’t give it. Baru Klinting asks the same request to the other person in the village, but their answer was same, no. In the middle of his desperate, Baru Klinting met the old woman. She was kind person, she the only one who gave Baru Klinting rice and meat. After ate, Baru Klinting told the old woman that the village will drown. He suggest to the old woman, to make a boat from lesung (piece of wood that used to precede paddy become rice in Java). The old woman obeyed. Baru Klinting returned to the wedding ceremony, he put a Sodo (rib in the java language) and put it in to the ground. He made a challenge that the one who could pull the Sodo from the ground was the strongest man. Everyone laugh to that challenge, they think it was so easy to pull the Sodo from the ground. Then every child from the village tried, but they all fail. Adult tried too, but the result is same Sodo was still on the ground. When every one gave up Baru Klinting pull the Sodo. Suddenly water came out from that hole, it was bigger and bigger. Finally the village was drowning with its villager completely. Only one survived, the old woman.
